The internship is fully paid at the London Living Wage of £14.80 per hour, plus a £100 travel bursary. Successful applicants will split their time between Carbon Brief’s office near London Bridge and remote work.

What the Internship Involves

Interns will shadow staff across the editorial team, covering climate science, policy, China’s emissions, and more. They will also help produce Carbon Brief’s award-winning newsletters and create social media content.

Each intern will research, write, and publish at least one full article. They will also learn how the small, independent global team turns scientific papers and policy documents into accessible stories.

“This is a hands-on placement where interns become part of our newsroom,” said Associate Editor Daisy Dunne, to whom the intern will report. “They will see exactly how we interrogate data, craft narratives, and use visuals to explain complex climate issues.”

Skills and Eligibility

Candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in climate change and some experience writing about technical topics for a general audience — even self-published work counts. Excellent spoken and written English is essential, and social media skills (Twitter/X, Instagram) are a plus.

Journalism experience is not required, but a commitment to journalistic integrity is. The internship is open to students and recent graduates based in or able to commute to London.
